Clubs for beginners and intermediate players

Best Golf Clubs for Beginners to Intermediate

Clubs to get you started.

Buying golf clubs as a beginner can be stressful and create panic for those considering golf. Buying individual clubs and creating your own set can get crazy expensive. But many starter sets for beginners earn horrible reviews. I have heard horror stories of clubheads flying off or shafts bending on the first swing. It is essential to take care when choosing, as many brands lack quality but have a reasonable price.

One benefit of choosing a set of clubs is that it comes with a bag. For around $500 you can receive a complete set plus a bag, which is a great deal. It also takes out the guesswork of choosing clubs. Since you only get 14 on the green, there is some strategy for selecting the number of long irons vs wedges. I always suggest bringing the max number of wedges you can.

We have many options at the golf superstore: complete golf sets, irons sets, and combo sets.

TOUR EDGE BAZOOKA 370 GOLF CLUBS SET

This set is an excellent choice for beginner or intermediate players. I think this set has the feel of a premium set, not a beginner set. But don't worry, this set is a reasonable price, $599. Yes, you can get sets cheaper, but that does not mean you should. With some exceptions, you must invest in quality golf equipment.

The driver has a loft of 10 degrees which is excellent for beginners, as the club helps with control/forgiveness. The ultra-thin face helps redistribute weight. Most of the clubs in this set have this feature, which I enjoy.

The Bazooka comes with #3 and #5 woods, and both are fitted with heavy yet low-profile designs. I have used many premium woods in my time, and these seem equal to all.

Not all sets include a hybrid, but we are in luck with this Tour Edge set. This hybrid seamlessly bridges the gap between long irons and woods.

The irons included are 5-9. They have a larger head than I have used before, so I was skeptical as the weight might be off. I was surprised, though, these are good for intermediate but great for beginners.

Also included is a sand wedge, pitching wedge, and putter. All are pretty solid, but the only negative is the putter. I find the anser-style putters harder to control as I prefer the mallet style. This is a personal preference, but it might be something to consider.

Overall, you want to look for clubs labeled “high forgiveness,” as this gives you some wiggle room on your ball strike. These are often labeled “game improvement” models. Even though you may buy a complete set, you can still be fitted for a set that works best for you. Try out certain clubs at the driving range or meet with a pro fitter. You can always start with an off-the-shelf set and later get fitted for personalized clubs.

After playing for a few years, you may feel like it is time to upgrade parts of your set. The set we suggested should last you a while, but as you progress in your game, you have different needs from your clubs.

CALLAWAY APEX PRO 21 IRONS

Once you reach teen digits in your handicap, the first thing to upgrade is your irons. This set from Callaway promotes speed while still providing forgiveness. I would say it's the best of both worlds! As you progress in your playing, you have better control over where the ball is going, but a little forgiveness never hurts anyone, right? You also get increased spin for dynamic stopping power.

Callaway included a massive Tungsten Energy Core into the Apex Pro Iron. The hollow body construction comprises up to 90 grams of tungsten per iron, the most ever in an Apex Iron. This Tungsten Energy Core improves launch characteristics while improving forgiveness.

The Flash Face cup technology from their woods clubs have also been implemented here in the irons. This allows for high CORs and fast ball speeds. This set maximizes distance while allowing control.

T300II IRONS

This iron's advanced tungsten and Max Impact technology are a powerful combination. From my experience with this iron, you can expect improved launch, distance, and shot, perfect for every intermediate golfer wanting to lower their handicap. The premium chrome head feels solid and allows you to make contact easier. I think the "sweet spot" is more prominent in these clubs, or at least they allow forgiveness in that way.

These irons have an enhanced polymer core that improves the feel and mass efficiency. I make solid contact with the ball (almost) every time I use one of these. These are great irons to utilize when you want to improve your handicap.

The production of the irons is comparable to tour irons, as the dense tungsten core leads to a solid feeling design maximized for launch and distance. The T300 has a variable face thickness design thinner towards the heel, improving strike performance.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH COMBO SET

Long irons are the hardest to hit in your bag. Hybrid clubs have increased a lot in popularity because they allow the distance of irons along with the forgiveness of a wedge. This combo set is ideal for any player who want to replace long irons with easier to hit hybrids.

The Stealth Hybrids in this set relocate 7 grams of mass, which allows incredible stability and explosive impact. MOI is increased when compared to previous models allowing more freedom in attack position.

Irons in this set are engineered to limit mishits and keep your shot straight while limiting vibrations. It expands the distance, forgiveness and feel benefits, delivering an iron that is easy to launch with a hot trajectory throughout the set.

In conclusion, you have many options as a beginner. Make an educated choice that fits your budget, time, and talents.
